Dancing Into the Spotlight: What's New at the Adult Ballet Centre

Hello, dear dancers and ballet enthusiasts!

I have got some fabulous updates. So grab your coffee (or tea, if you fancy that), and let’s dive into the latest happenings at the Adult Ballet Centre!

Adult Ballet Centre dancers - Ann Tan, Louise Letson and Aojie Ding

A Standing Ovation from the Herald Sun!

First off, let’s give a big round of applause to the incredibly talented Grace Baldwin, who penned a beautiful piece about us in the Herald Sun Weekend Magazine. If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, do yourself a favour and dive into her eloquent words that perfectly capture the essence of what we do here. Grace has managed to sprinkle her magic on paper, highlighting the sheer joy and determination that every adult ballet dancer brings to our studio. We’re practically blushing from all the lovely feedback we've received. Thank you Grace

Rise and Shine with Our New Floor Barre Classes!

Now, for those early birds who think 7:30 AM on a Saturday is the perfect time to start plie-ing, we’ve got some news for you! We’re excited to announce our new floor barre classes, now available before most of our ballet sessions during the week 30 minutes before each class. These classes are based on the Boris Kniaseff Floor Barre method is an invaluable tool for helping dancers to develop strength, coordination, flexibility and control. It sculpts the muscle gradually and safely. Yes, you read that right—7:30 AM on Saturdays! We promise it’s the best way to wake up your muscles and your spirit. Plus, there’s something exceptional about moving through those exercises while the rest of the world still wakes up. And let’s be honest. Nothing beats the smug satisfaction of finishing a workout before most people have had their first cup of coffee. Think Mind over Mattress!!

Your Ballet Journey: From First Steps to Flourishing Grace

For those just starting out on their ballet journey with us a big welcome! At the Adult Ballet Centre, we understand that everyone begins somewhere, and we've designed our classes to guide you through each stage of your ballet adventure. Whether you're a complete beginner or returning to ballet after a long hiatus, our classes cater to all levels, ensuring you progress at your own pace and find happiness in your dancing.

Australian Institute of Classical Dance (AICD) Adult Ballet Assessment Program news

Some of our adult ballet dancers have been working hard preparing for the AICD Adult Ballet Assessment Program, progressing beautifully through Levels 1 to 4. With the November exams on the horizon, we couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and improvement we’re seeing in everyone. A huge shoutout to Tonia, our amazing AICD coordinator, and Mollie, who have been tirelessly supporting and guiding our dancers to ensure they’re ready to shine in their exams. With Tonia and Mollie by their side, there’s no doubt they’ll all pirouette their way to success!

Congratulations, UNLID.DANCE company and Mollie Harrison!

Let’s all raise a glass (or a water bottle) to Mollie Harrison, who has just been appointed as a company member for UNLID.DANCE! Mollie will be heading off to perform at the Singapore International Dance Festival in early September with Artistic Director Jennifer Fleenor-OBrien’s new work ‘F5’. While she’s off dazzling the international stage for four days, Bella and Alex are cooking some exciting classes to keep the energy high and the fun rolling in the studio. We can’t wait to see what they have in store!

We wish UNLID.DANCE Company is the very best on its tour—the touring piece by UNLID.DANCE will be hosting a rehearsal viewing of F5 on Friday, 30 August at 6pm, at the Arnold Street Studio, UNLID’s residency studio.

A big thank you to Amy, Anka, Bella, Jen, Alex, Mollie and Tonia for their unwavering passion for adult ballet and contemporary dance, sharing their knowledge, care and passion. We are very lucky and grateful.
